The Brotherhood Boarding House

The Brotherhood of Bayville, established 1848, is a proud old institution dedicated to promoting the welfare of the down and outs of society. In the past couple of years the Brotherhood's funds seem to have run low judging by the disrepair of their accommodation, while doubts have been raised about the integrity of the young residents by certain local authorities.

[The Ground Floor]

[Opening of the foyer is a kitchen, living room, dining room and closet. All in various states of disrepair.]

[The Upper Floor]

[Nearly a third of the floor is taken up by Mystique's bedroom, the door to which stays locked at all times. Otherwise the remaining rooms are fairly small, with only a couple of bathrooms between them.]

[Used for storage, there are a number of leaks in the roof caused by past tremors, only the section that covers Mystique and Wanda's rooms below is in good repair.]

[There's a rustling from the undergrowth and a small underfed, unhealthy looking tabby cat emerges from the bushes, looking to the left and freezing as it stares up at the figure of the girl nearby. Wanda, how 'wonderful'.]

[Wanda was sitting on the back steps of the house, elbows on her knees, hunched with terrible posture. She was having feelings again, for as much as she might like her teammates, they were not the touchy-feely sort to 'share'. Hell-- even her own family didn't have that trait. It left her feeling emotionally blocked and frustrated as hell, though.

Seeing the cat emerge, though, she tilted her head, and almost smiled at it.]

... here, puss puss...

[Her voice was quiet, both to not attract the attention of the boys, and to not startle the cat. She carefully extended a hand, palm up, offering her fingers to the cat in a gesture of goodwill. ]

[Urgh.

For a moment the cat almost turned back the way it had come, glancing up at that proffered palm with a look that distinctly said 'No'. But it compromises, and instead settles down on her haunches just out of reach, flicking her tail casually.]

[She withdrew her hand, as slowly as she had offered it. ]

I don't blame you. Most people around here are pretty nervous when I move my hands.

[She was uncertain why she was confiding in a cat. Perhaps she had nothing better to do. Perhaps she had no one better to confide in. Either way, so long as she kept her voice low, what was the harm.]
